General
Colin Perini is among the finest seascape artists in the world. His dedication to painting only the sea is the key to his international success. This focus has led to an innate understanding of this moving medium. His ability to capture its action in bold sweeping strokes is incredible.
This spectacular work is acrylic painted on canvas. The foam and rocks are lightly textured and this along with his subtle use of light, gives a soft 3D effect to his dynamic work.
It is moving art, painted with passion and energy, from a heart in harmony with the subject. Underlying all of the works, no matter how stormy, there is a feeling of peace and serenity. These works are from the heart of a true artist.
His art demonstrates the wonder of the ordinary. Colin's theme is natural beauty. Without compromise, every painting is a demonstration of his commitment to this ideal. Each piece is a unique expression of the wonder of the living ocean.
Personal
Colin Perini was born way back in 1949 in Sydney Australia. He married his favorite girl in the world in 1968 and Lina is still his favorite girl. In 1969 graduated from University of NSW as a Mechanical Engineer. His first job as an engineer, was in an outback town called Cobar. Almost immediately, he started small paintings of the old head frames of deserted mines in the Cobar area. The urge to paint was a result of the feeling of freedom from study after years at university. He was amazed when he received a ‘Highly Commended’ award at the tiny Cobar Agriculture Show but this was enough to encourage him to keep at his art.
He spent 12 years in the mining industry moving around Australia and New Zealand. During this time he focused more and more on learning to draw portraits. In Adelaide changed careers to portrait artist and spent the next 16 years doing portraits in Australia, USA and England. The last 10 years were mainly spent at Dreamworld doing quick portraits with funny bodies. During his portrait career he drew over 75,000 portraits.
In 1997, he again changed careers, this time to become a seascape artist. For the last year at Dreamworld he would get up at 4 or 5 am and practice painting the sea before beginning a day of portraits. For the first 6 months as a would-be seascape artist Colin and his wife traveled the East Coast of Australia visiting many beaches and selling his art and weekend craft markets. They then settled back on the Coast and for a long time sold the art the weekend markets in the Gold Coast area.
In 2001 they opened their first gallery in the Oasis Shopping Center. They are still there with a brand new gallery on the ground floor called the Alison Perini Gallery. Colin’s art is now in over 25 countries around the world and in many Australian galleries and private collections.
A life not fixed to one address or one lifestyle. A life not bound by possessions and the desire to accumulate. The sea is a symbol of his life – constant change, moving naturally to a hidden rhythm of life.
From a young age, always changing, always ready to adapt to new situations. Three major career changes Engineer, Portrait Artist, Seascapes Artist.
Change is natural, it is the creative urge of all life.
Colin ’s art flows across the boundary to the observer and fuses with the heart. It creates harmony in the heart and home. Harmony is natural resonance with the song of the universe. His art sings to the person who must hold it.
Life never ceases to express anew. Swirling, switching, rolling and rocking like the sea. Life is a sea of movement, nothing is the same, nothing is repeated, new, new, new, constantly renewing. Life is not always comfortable or convenient. It is always bringing forth the unexpected. Life is like the sea, some days are calm some days are ferocious. Sometimes you float and sometimes you have to swim. No days are the same. It is movement that never ceases.
Living in the moment is riding the crest of a great wave rushing through eternity, unpredictably rolling this way and that. The moment cannot be controlled or predicted, it cannot be stopped or slowed, on and on and on. A wall of energy that never ceases, a wall of energy that never needs to rest. A wave that moves in its own mysterious way, a wave that never arrives.
Colin Perini is the creator of new ways, an innovator simply by being true to his own song. He rides the wave of change in all aspects of his life.
His lifestyle is living proof that you can face the opposite way to the crowd and live a good life. You do not have to spend your life surrounding yourself with possessions and problems. If you have too many possessions they become heavy and require a lot of energy to maintain.
To follow old patterns is to deny the expression of the new and natural. He does not follow he leads. Courageously facing the unknown. His inspiration arises from the living moment. Now is made up of new combinations of life.
Every instant is new and equal to every moment that ever was. We place values on appearances according to our needs. Life does not have needs or values, it is has no destination. He has spent his life trying to find uncover new insights into living this moment to the fullest. Unpredictable yet safe within the natural patterns of his being. Constantly expressing the maximum creative ways of living.
